KAMIKAZE PHOTOSHOOT

As I knew, I had to leave the mountain and this was going to be my last night here up in the forest, a strange feeling of loss overcame me. The sun had already set, and the pitch dark night had taken over the forest with the night sky shining bright over the crisp, cold mountain air. That is when I decided to dance off my anxiety about leaving what I had called home for the past six months. I went down into the she shed and slid on my shiny, new pair of thigh high stiletto boots. I thoughts they would help me keep the cold away from my body and allow me to dance one last time as if I had known it would be the last night in the strip club — the forest strip club. That night I unleashed something. It was a kamikaze dance documented on camera. It made me realize how much I enjoy creating … how much I like showing through photographs how I feel and with that expression being granted to make others feel as well.

WHAT I MISS THE MOST

The pandemic has been good to me. At least as good as a pandemic can be. I have had more time to tend to myself and do me. I have no reason to complain. This is just a note, something that has grabbed my attention. As I train daily by myself I miss having a training partner and a photographer. Training without having anybody to spot you is a rather frustrating experience. The progress is slow and you have to take extra precautions not to injure yourself.

The same applies to photography. I miss having a skilled eye behind the camera catching moments of creativity you can rarely get with a selfie or screenshot. I miss just being in the moment, moving freely without having to worry about any of the technical stuff like lighting and camera angles and so on.

I guess creative collaborations are still something you cannot find a replacement for.

CAPTURING THE ESSENCE IN A PHOTOGRAPH

To me, a photograph should be just like a dance performance. It shouldn’t just capture a moment, a beautiful pose in a beautiful outfit. A photograph just like a live dance performance should capture the story of the model and performer. When done correctly, a photograph and a performance will cause in each person different emotions and will awaken something very unique in each viewer. Most models and performers just execute beautifully a routine with a chain of poses and it will look pretty. My interest never lied in clean lines and a perfectly executed choreography. As a performer and model I believe that it is my responsibility to move people the minute I step on stage or in front of the camera.

WHEN MEN ASK FOR PICTURES

In the olden days, you had to uncomfortably sit for hours, even days to get a portrait painted of you to then have a messenger transport it by foot or horseback, possibly in a carriage if the portrait was large and framed.

Or in my days, you had to take a photograph with film. Take it to a developer, pay money not just for the camera, film, and development but also wait for it to be developed, and then pay again to the postal service so your dear one could get it a week later. It actually meant something to send a picture of yourself. But now a days, just from being friends on Facebook people expect you to send a picture of your ass, boobs , or other body parts. And strangely, people do it, although, I don’t really understand what purpose it really serves. It’s a strange world where instant gratification has ruined and cheapened something that used to be meaningful.
